Re: Super cool '57 Olds
I've always liked the '50s Olds. My sister had a '53 98 that was really cool. Only thing I didn't appreciate was the cruise control. If set for a fast speed, then resumed at a slow speed, it felt like WOT. I made that mistake when that was, by far, the fastest car I had driven. Quite a shock. That '...

Re: 1996 Collector Edition Corvette
Is there some way, short of an oscilloscope, to assess the strength of the spark? In the beginning, it offered to start then would fire weakly on one cyl sometimes. Made me think maybe the spark wasn't what it should be.
Re: 2003 S-10
No, the rotor was fine, the pads just hang off the outside edge the tiniest amount so they don't wear, just leave enough pad to squeak. The pads are PowerStop Z26 pads and are normally never squeaky, and the rotors I'm pretty sure are PowerStop also, and are slotted and crossdrilled. They've held u...

In our work at the Wheels4Hope charity, WXO and I found the cheapest pads to squeal.

Re: slowly the big 3 ditch high powered engines
To me, hybrids make sense to reduce pollution in cities, do road trips, and pay a fair share of road taxes. I don't understand how people think we can go all plug ins without a very expensive expansion of the grid and power generation. I do understand the attraction for people who can afford an EV, ...

Good work!! I saw where the Opti-Spark ventilation system is an annual service item. How often do you suppose THAT happens?

Isn't there supposed to be lube of some sort on there? I somehow remember on maybe the Caddy when I was adjusting the points seeing lube where it contacts the distributor shaft. Not sure if that's true or not, or if the kit comes with anything like that. -BP It's true. Think I remember a dab of gre...

Could be but you might change your mind in a couple of decades. The Maverick was great fun, but the Lincoln was comfortable and fun.Basement Paul wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 4:30 pm Although a big-ass convertible is cool, I think my boating days are over. And I really don't like that color on that car, but that's just me.

Re: 1979 Malibu
When I did the in-tank pump on the Lincoln, I had a similar issue. Didn't know if the wire insulation was OK submerged in gasohol. I put a fuel-safe rubber hose over the wire. Maybe you could cover the splice, or whole wire, in hose if you're not sure of the shrink wrap.

It is fun to look back on the life of everyone’s vehicles in this forum . Including our own. :) I used the project threads as journals for things I'd need to know later on and, now that I don't have a project, I reminisce over them. It's amazing how much of what I did was forgotten. (I put front di...

Re: 1996 Collector Edition Corvette
There is a LOT to know about the front of the LT4 with the water pump, reluctor, distributor and pressed on hub!! A lot could go wrong without the careful research WXO has done. Improvised pullers and installers got 'er done. Well, not done, but good progress. I'm enjoying participating a little in ...
