TRP Sunday 8/5/18 Ford-GM-Dodge Race

Post by Basement Paul »

This Sunday is the Ford-GM-Dodge race at TRP. I have the S-10 all cleaned up inside and out, and will be ready to race on Sunday. Hopefully the weather doesn't get too hot, but I'll probably bring my tent to chill under. Hopefully we can get a couple guys out there. I'm pretty sure Fred will be there, and maybe 'Smoker in his newly minted Chevelle. Any other takers? This is usually a pretty fun race. Lots of passes if you want them, then they run a street tire and race tire class.

Last night at Dragway 42, I was having issues with the starter. Had to bang on it a few times with my jack handle. It seemed fine later in the evening, so maybe it was heat-soaked (after a 1hr drive??) Not confidence inspiring. Not sure if I'm going to make it or not.

I had an issue again today after driving home from the show, while in Tony's driveway. I'm gonna bail for tomorrow.

Yesterday I typed up a whole synapses of what happened at the race on my phone, and thought I hit the submit button. Apparently that didn't happen. The long and short of it is that I threw up a -.06 red in the first round and blew a 12.53 on a 12.53 dial, to lose to a field of five that I should have been able to easily beat. Needless to say I was pretty disappointed in myself and plan to go back out on Wed to practice my focus more.

Weather was 80 degrees with slight breeze, not really great conditions.

Had 3 time runs. 14,78, 14.85, 14.85, over 93.5 mph,with.08, .07, .03 lights, all my 60 ft. were 2.0's.
So I dialed 14.80, had an .091 lite, turned 14.88 at 85.69 mph on the brakes .05 seconds to soon and my night was over.

It was surprising to see BP go red in the 1st round.

'Smoke lost in the semis after he convinced his starter to start with a hammer.
It was fun watched Dave go through the field, 3 cars left, no by run for him,
a little wheel spin and he was done.

I had a good time, finally having some good lights.

I think we might be out there again next Wednesday.

As always, TRP is great fun.

Yep, it was a fairly satisfying night. I managed to get 4 times runs in, and my RTs went .13, .12, .07, and .04. The .04 was against Paul and we both cut an .04 light. Thats as heads-up as it gets! (he beat me, of course) Then in the first round, I managed an .06 (against an .03), next 2 guys red-lighted, and I lost in the 4th round (semi-final). One more win and I would've gotten a trophy.

It was really nice to race my car again and while my numbers (12.80s @ 104, thru the mufflers) are a little off, it's still pretty consistent. I had a little wheelspin in round 3 that might've lost me the race, but the other guy red-lighted. 4th round, it completely blew the tires off. And the other guy (who would take the class win) cut an .003 on that run, so I was probably losing no matter what.

Special thanks to Paul for helping me on the re-starts with my bum starter. A new one has been ordered.

Unfortunately I've got a bad case of Redlightous. It's a dangerous affliction of which the cure is hard to define. I have top men working on it, and hopefully will have the cure by next Wednesday.

From what I can see, it should be about the same as last week. Warm and humid, but no rain. I'm going to wear something green...
