Ran good on the way home. Brakes and suspension feel great and the tires are Firestone Firehawk GTz Pursuit and with plenty of life left in them. There will be some work to prep it for her but not much mechanical other than routine maintenance and possibly front wheel bearings

Car has 5 3/4” holes which are now plugged with a rubber plug for now

The fog lamp hole covers also arrived and are installed.

Factory speedo is 160 mph and the police paid $22,882.01 for this car in October 2012

If you painted the rubber plugs silver, they'd blend in pretty good.

Today did the basics - echeck, title transfer and license plates. Also visited my body shop and owner recommended bonding patches rather than welding. Hmmm might need some JB Weld! He also suggested I look for a color matched trunk lid. Did some investigating online can’t find one. May call a few junkyards.

It has a slight hesitation off idle which could be plugs or dirty MAF. Also noticed low speed turns the power steering was sluggish intermittent ly. Also changed battery in second remote it works.

Fair question. Since I purchased the car and intend to give her something prepped and ready for a 20 year old girl to take as a daily driver, I guess I am in my jurisdiction here. Signing it over to her when she graduates.

Reality is I don’t see her frequenting tiresmoke

Bought some Charger parts - console, trunk lid, spare (hiding behind the trunk lid), trunk parts

The lid is silver and ...
IMG_3495.JPG
With all this stuff crowding my garage I decided I needed to assemble the trunk insides. Here are before:

And after:
IMG_3497.JPG
The console was dirt cheap. it will fit but it has some problems
IMG_3493.JPG
It looks like someone used the gorilla technique to remove the back part of the console from the car - I will probably fab something up.

Are you going to attempt to make it floor shift again?

Not planning to go that far. I have seen plenty of them with the center console with the column shift. The column shift actually has push button for manual control of the gears so you would only have to touch a button for the up or downshift.

Metal bonding material arrived last Saturday. Dropped the headliner, made patches for 4 roof holes and 2 trunk holes (why not), cleaned the paint off the bottom of the roof and trunk, cleaned the galvanize off the patch panels, applied the adhesive and installed the patches - used gorilla tape and magnets to hold the patches in place.

Also removed the police search light. It connects right into the factory wiring harness.

Today, fixed the C pillar trim and B pillar trim so they would attach securely to the car, reinstalled headliner, visors, overhead center console.

Rachel was over and helped cleaning leftover sticker glue from all over the car. She also had the chance to drive the car for the first time today.

After she left I swapped out the trunk lid. It took quite a while to line it up still not satisfied with the alignment.

Yesterday I went to work on the A pillar. The nuts that were holding the spotlight fell in when I ground off the part that was sticking up, so I fashioned a method to fill those holes and fabricated a piece to plug the main hole using a screw to hold it in place until it can be welded. I also finished assembly of the inside of the trunk.

Kurt did some welding last night unfortunately there are two small pieces of metal inside the A pillar. I hope they do not rattle

Made progress on the center console.

First had to replace the base where the console attaches to the tunnel. Whoever removed it just gorilla strength removed it. Used some 1/8" angle stock to replace that. Took some grinding to get the holes lining up with the bolt holes on the tunnel.

The whole thing was dirty - had a couple spills that had not been cleaned off the inside and who knows what else. Cleaned some with Windex and some went to the sink for soap and water cleaning.

During test fitting discovered the car wiring harness and the console harness plugs did not match up. Ended up disassembling the console harness somewhat and removing unnecessary wires. The console has three cigarette lighter plugs, a USB port, an Aux jack, and lighting for the lighter plugs and the cup holders. The USB connection was easy. The police car wiring harness had two 12v+ and 12v- on the key. One of those I connected to two of the cig lighter plugs. The other will be connected to the third cig lighter plug. These are all on the ignition so they have no power when the key is off.

Still need a plug for the third cigarette lighter.

Looking at the console harness I found an orange wire with grey stripe for the lighting, and found the same wire in the car harness. I surmised that was the signal wire so I connected it to the console wire. It worked.

There is also the matter of what to do with the shifter plate. I decided to leave the plate but wanted to fill the hole in the slider where the shifter went. I fabricated a nice cover from a flexible black three ring binder cover
